My favorite short break and why

If there’s one thing I love, it’s a quick break away from hum drum. Long holidays are all very well and good, but they can be stressful in the planning stage, so a short break, sometimes totally spontaneous is often a great way to break up routine.

I did just that recently, simply because I was fed up of work stress and needed to get away and have some fun, so I decided to regress back to my childhood, and booked a long weekend at Disneyland Paris!

Yes, I am a grown woman, but sometimes a girl just needs a hug from Mickey Mouse.

I mentioned this idea to my friend, before we even decided where to go, and she was just as eager to disappear for a few days too, so armed with a bottle of wine, we sat down with the laptop and checked out last minute breaks. I’m a woman who loves to plan, so this spontaneous trip business was quite a shock for me, despite being surprisingly easy!

It was during our wine-fuelled break search that we stumbled upon a cheap weekend at the heart of the magic, and even better it came with a day free in Paris to explore. We booked it pretty much straight away, not really caring what anyone would think about two grown women frolicking with Pluto and friends for a few days.

It’s easy to find all manner of short breaks online, and we found ours pretty quickly that way, simply booking online and paying by credit card. The next step was to make sure we had tickets for the parks and that was just as easy, with another internet search. I have to say, this was probably the easiest planned holiday of the lot, and to be honest, the stress-free approach to it all made me enjoy it much more.

We travelled with hand luggage only, just to make it all easier still, and basically threw ourselves into the fun of the weekend. To be honest, we didn’t do a whole of lot of planning other than making sure we had the right tickets and checking out the hotel on Trip Advisor, because it truly was a quick visit away from the run we’d both got ourselves into at home, and acting like kids for a few days was just the medicine.

Paris itself was pretty amazing, despite being ridiculously busy and cold, but that’s what you get for visiting in January! Getting wrapped up against the elements and exploring however was half of the fun, although one day was not enough.

If you’re getting a bit sick of 9-5, then I can’t recommend heading way enough. You don’t have to plan it to infinity and beyond, just like Buzz Lightyear, who yes, I did meet, but if you’re thinking of heading off on a city break, a bit of pre-planning might come in useful, just to make sure you see everything you want to before you run out of time.

The next short break is in the planning stages, and this time it’s going to be Barcelona. A bit of Spanish flair and sophistication could be just what the doctor ordered!
